The following information describes organizations that offer resources, guidance, training and other services to non-profit organizations. The intent of The Watershed Institute is to provide a consolidated resource of information for watershed organizations; it does not endorse any specific organization listed below. A Funding Resource to Build
Your Organization's Capacity!

Environmental Support Center (ESC), http://www.envsc.org, works to strengthen the organizational effectiveness of nonprofit organizations that work on environmental issues. The Training and Organizational Assistance Program of ESC provides funds for organizations to hire consultants or to attend capacity building training events, and advises organizations on their capacity building efforts.



NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT TRAINING CENTERS

The Center for Nonprofits is a charitable umbrella organization serving New Jersey's non-profit organizations. Their announcement web page contains information on upcoming events, funding opportunities and job announcements.

The Entrepreneurial Training Institute's The ETI program covers such practical topics as goal setting, financing and marketing, and participants develop a business plan for their own organization. The ETI will be offered to entrepreneurs in the not-for-profit sector in Wayne and Trenton classes only. Not-for-profit organizations must undergo an assessment of their readiness to enroll in the ETI program through the Seton Hall University Institute on Work (IOW).

Foundation Center's New York office hosts free classes and fee-based seminars specifically designed for grantseekers-either representatives of nonprofit organizations or individuals-who want to enhance their understanding of the grantseeking process and various aspects of funding research.

Governing Institute of New Jersey (GINJ) is a non-profit educational and research institute whose mission is to "develop the leadership abilities of a group of diverse potential leaders and empower them with skills and knowledge for effective coalition building around community public policy issues." Topics covered include: Communication Skills, Developing a Personal Mission Statement, Values Clarification, Coalition Building, Marketing, and Media Relations. Leaders in the field of Public Policy, Lobbying and Public Budget Analyses bring their expertise to the GINJ participants.

Partnership in Philanthropy is a partnership between New Jersey's donor community and members of the New Jersey professional fundraising community that was organized in 1991, and exists to strengthen the fund raising capacity of New Jersey's non-profit community. In addition to their basic courses, they are launching Tier Two, workshops for staff and trustees who are ready for the next level of fundraising and board leadership. Workshops will be offered in northern and central New Jersey. Pre-registration is necessary.

Support Center for Nonprofit Management provides management training and consulting, disseminates information and practical resources to the sector, and works to build strategic alliances. They offer workshops in Trenton, NJ and Manhattan, NY.


NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT COURSE OPPORTUNITIES

Mercer County Community College offers courses and a certificate program in nonprofit management.

The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University, a program of the University's School of Business Administration, works to strengthen the management and governance infrastructures of nonprofits throughout the Delaware Valley.
